List of Complex and Simple Carbohydrate Food

Starch is considered to be a complex carbohydrate. Complex carbohydrates are difficult to absorb through the intestines and make your digestive enzymes do hard work, to break the chain of bounded sugar into individual sugars.

The complex carbohydrate takes longer time to absorb sugar due to the slow process of digestion. It steadily supplies energy and the amount of sugar converted into fat is limited.

Complex carbohydrates are considered to be good carbohydrates which are normally found in fruits such as oranges, plumps, grapefruit, apple, green vegetables such as celery, broccoli, cauliflower, split peas, lettuce, spinach etc. It is also found in oatmeal, mussel, okra, buckwheat, whole barley, brown rice and many more.

Vegetables are mostly considered to be a good source of complex carbohydrates, raw vegetable such as cucumbers, onions, carrots, radishes and even sprouts are a good source of the same. If you opt for bread then whole meal bread will provide you a good portion of the same. You can replace cow's milk with soy milk.

Simple carbohydrates are considered to be bad as they are digested quickly and contain very few essential minerals and vitamins. These types of carbohydrates are known to contain empty calories which you will find in foods like chocolate, biscuits, pastries, cake etc.

When you are eating your food, you do not require much amount of energy, thus the sugar will be converted into glycogen or converted into fat. Since your body cells can store a limited amount of glycogen the rest will be converted into fats and store in your body.

We are not yet accustomed to eating foods that are unprocessed such as brown rice or brown sugar. If we consume them in your refine form that is when they are white, we are consuming bad carbohydrates as the food is digested, but the fats remain in the body cells that lead to excess weight.

It is advised that we should try and eat more of raw vegetables as they are very safe and make us feel full before we even reach our main meal disk. This will prevent us from eating foods that contain excessive fat.

A fitness site advises that simple carbohydrates are not good for health as they are the main cause of fat belly and unhealthy weight. Strawberry comes under the list of complex carbohydrates, thus the carbs it contains are good for your health and can be added to the list of your fruits.
